Here’s my take…

When I was originally trained, as I am sure many of you were as well, here's what it looked like...I call it "Sales Training For Failure"
  Step 1 -  Shadow other advisors to get a feel for how things work (someone who is "experienced")
  Step 2 - Do video or in-person sales training to learn each part of the sales process (greetings, demos, numbers, etc.)
  Step 3 - Maybe take some notes and try to remember everything (keep in mind most have never heard this before)
  Step 4 - Find someone that you can practice role-playing with. Practice various scenarios and situations. Start to try and get a feel for the flow of conversations. (Great concept. Usually this is done poorly and provides us with little positive impact.)
  Step 5 - Go back to shadowing "experienced" advisors some more.
  Step 6 - Study the product so you know what you are talking about.
  Step 7 - Start taking a few opportunities on your own to see what the process is like in real life.
  Step 8 - Practice and rewatch training videos for best practices
  Step 9 - Memorize these closes. 
  Step 10 - Repeat steps 7,8,and 9.
  Step 11 - Maybe go get a manager or someone else to close your deals and "watch" what they do or maybe you let them walk. No deal
  Step 12 - Wonder why you close some deals and not others. 
And it's not just me! 

What percentage of people are actually successful with this process?

At the time I honestly had no clue what he was talking about. I shrugged it off. 

Everyone had been telling me in order to close deals...  
 ...Tell them about how great the car is...
 ...Tell them all the reasons your car is the best one for them...
 ...Tell them about all the different things the dealership has to offer..
 ...Focus on how much money you could make...
 ...Focus on the bills you need pay...

I/ME/MY...My company - My Product - My Story - My Money...

Tell Tell Tell...Me Me Me...
Months later as I was still banging my head against the wall...

...for some reason I remembered what the Old Man had told me.

Later that day I found the Old Man on his lunch break and asked him to explain what he meant the day he walked by my desk.

He told me, “First off Rob, I've been watching and more importantly listening to you...

You spend the majority of your time with a client talking. 

You Talking... Not Them Talking... 

How can you ever figure out how to sell someone a car if you are the one talking the whole time?

And Secondly, people can tell if you are truly thinking about yourself  or them no matter how good you think you are at hiding it...”

He told me, “If you want to close more deals, you need to spend more time learning and caring about the prospective buyer than anything else you do.”

I asked, “How am I supposed to do that?”

The Old Man went back to his lunch and I went to try and figure out how I was supposed to actually do what he had said.

It took me some time, but not only did I figure out what he meant, I created a system that had an immediate impact...

And the best part I realized about this approach to selling?
You don't Even Have To worry about  all the other Fluff!
Which means I'm giving you permission to focus only on this one step for right now...

All you have to do, is focus on learning as much as possible about your potential customer, and watch the rest of process take care of itself. 
 
Most Auto Sales Training or Consulting Today wants to Cover 100 different Steps Of The Process...especially “CLOSING”.
Focused On The Demo, Service Center, Greetings, Sending Emails, Text Messages, Marketing, Website design, MOTIVATION, and the list goes.

Whatever it was, it didn't work for me.

And if I had to guess, you are still reading this because it isn’t working for you either.

Individuals and corporations a like will spend thousands of dollars on advice which doesn't actually address the root of the issue. 

OR even worse spending thousands every month on training programs which likely AREN'T EVEN BEING USED!
